HI, I’m Juan Miguel Jocom!
My high school teacher once told me that I'm the "chisme" of the campus. I took that seriously, and decided to be a journalist.
I’m a Filipino multimedia journalist based in Seattle. I graduated from University of Washington with a double major in Journalism and Public Interest Communication and
Anthropology. My work has appeared on The Stranger, The Urbanist, Seattle Met, South Seattle Emerald, Real Change, The Ticket of Seattle Times, International Examiner, Converge Media, The UW Daily, The Nudge.
As a multi-skilled journalist with experience in photography and videography, I focus on queer arts and culture—topics that are especially dear to me and where I often dwell and report.
During the winter session of 2025, I reported on Washington state legislative news for WNPA, with my articles published across various state publications. In summer 2025 I will be interning with Bangkok Post as a news desk reporter.
I was also selected as one of the 2025 Bonderman Fellow. Later in 2025, I’ll be traveling solo through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Nepal.
In the summer of 2024, I biked from Mexico to Canada, padaling around 1,600 miles. I documented my journey, from enduring the scorching heat waves of New Mexico to braving south-ward coastal winds of California.
When I’m not stressing about sources ghosting me, I enjoy tufting rugs, watching movies, rock climbing, and, of course, bikepacking.
